Some of my marketing instructor readers may be regular users and very familiar with TikTok. Personally, I am afraid of getting addicted, so I have not spent a lot of time in TikTok. That said, I have read a lot about it, especially to learn more about how it is used in marketing.
I learned a lot more after watching TikTok, Boom a one and a half hour documentary that premiered on PBS on October 24, 2022. You can watch it online or on your PBS app or station. Described as a movies that allows you to “Explore the power and complexity of technology through the lens of TikTok and the Gen Z influencers who know it best.”
While some of the movie examines influencers (the primary marketing application) it also digs into some of the controversy surrounding the social media platform. Given current and prior discussion of banning the app in the United States, it seems relevant to understand more. See the movie’s official trailer below.
