Dick’s Sporting Goods has been pivoting to a new strategy. With many brick-and-mortar retailers struggling, Dick’s is making some changes. It is closing its Field & Stream stores and building up other specialty store concepts, including Golf Galaxy, Public Lands, and Going, Going, Gone.
Certainly the biggest part of its plan (by square feet and probably dollar investment) is to open more of its Dick’s House of Sports stores. These stores are gigantic, at over 100,000 square feet. The focus is on the shopping experience, which may be the best way to counteract online retail. You can read more about the retailers plans in this article. You might want to show the video below in class, and ask your students if they agree with Dick’s executives who are calling it the “future of retail.”
