Social Media Update — TikTok and Reddit
Our coverage of social media in Chapter 16 includes descriptions of how the major social media platforms work and their strategies. We include a lot of data on various platforms. We also explain how each might work differently within a firm’s promotion strategy. Of course the popularity of different social media platforms’ changes quickly. - Social Media Fact Sheet – Pew Research is one of the sources I use to build out the data that Essentials of Marketing readers can see in Exhibit 16-6. Here is “hot off the press” data that shows “Which social media platforms are most popular” and “Who uses each social media platform?”
- The slow, steady, frustrating, relentless remarkable rise of Reddit – A deep dive on the latest social media superstar – Reddit. Includes a cool chart showing the rise and fall of 16 social media platforms over time. You could cut and paste that chart into your slides and use it to discuss the various social media platforms’ comings and goings.
- Traffic To Threads Is Still Growing – Instagram/Facebook’s answer to TikTok continues to grow.
- TikTok Remains Teens’ Favorite Social Media Platform, Intagram Their Most-Used – Pew does good work, this article has lots of details from a survey of more than 13,500 teens. Among teens, Snapchat’s in decline while Instagram and TikTok are growing. Data from Spring 2020 to Fall 2024.
- Most teens spend around 25% of their waking hours using screens – Reports the findings from a CDC study of teenagers. Yikes! 4+ hours a day.
